OOTD: Leather and Polka Dots and Coffee!

Leather (or faux-leather) is obviously a huge trend this season…and you–being the fabulous and stylish minx that you are–bought some leather pieces to spice up your wardrobe. But now what? I faced this same dilemma after I bought this amazing faux-leather panel pencil skirt from Eloquii. I fell instantly, madly in love with it when I tried it on…but then I started wondering if it was too sexy to wear to the office… Now, you can totally rock the darker, sexier side of this skirt for a night out…but I wanted to debut it in the light of day. So, I came up with an office-appropriate outfit featuring the leather panel skirt from Eloquii. I just downplayed the tough-girl factor a bit by pairing it with something light and playful–polka dots!

The graphic, bold polka dots on this simple boatneck sweater lighten the “mood” created by the leather skirt. But, I didn’t want to lose all of my shape and look casual, so I cinched the waist with a belt, added opaque tights and platform wedges.

I met my friend Wendy at LaVazza Cafe on our lunch break and had a decadent treat while snapping these pics. Can you say Nutella Espresso?????

I have no idea why my hair looks so red in these pictures! It must be the lighting.

After that amazingly potent coffee, I just had to indulge in a little Mary Tyler Moore moment. lol

See?? You CAN wear leather to the office!

Black Friday DEALS for Plussize Shoppers

I was overcome with all of the amazing deals in my inbox this morning, and have been shopping up a storm!! So the only thing I can ethically do is share my deals with you! My 3 favorite deals for plussize steals on Black Friday are from Kiyonna, Asos Curve, and Eloquii. Here are just a few picks from their amazing holiday-ready collections.

Kiyonna
No surprises here, right? I’ve been obsessed with Kiyonna since I first slipped into one of their dresses. Order today for Black Friday and you get 30% off orders of $150 or more and free shipping both ways if you enter the code THANKFUL at checkout!!

The Rumor Ruched Dress is one of their newest styles…isn’t this emerald green color DIVINE? And ruching? And sleeves? Perfect for so many holiday events. 🙂

Did you see my sexy librarian post for this Valentina Illusion Dress? It’s AHHHHH-mazing. You will have party-goers drooling into their eggnog if you show up in this dress.

This is another winner from Kiyonna! The Whimsy Wrap Dress comes in this stunning, rich red color that will perfectly complement holiday decor! Everyone who sees you will want to “unwrap” this wrap dress! (Was that inappropriate??? lol)

Asos Curve
Cute, sophisticated, perky and fun…these clothes are for curvy, fashion-forward women who like to play with their wardrobes. Today, receive 20% off everything, even sale items by entering BLACKFRIDAYBONUS at checkout.

I can think of 42 places to wear these adorable Jacquard Print Peg Trousers from Asos Curve! They are a little fancy so you can wear them to parties, happy hour drinks, and to the office. Stick with black on top and bottom, and you’ll look chic and sophisticated! (They come in a royal blue print too!)

This Owl Sweater is so cute! It’s perfect for lounging around the house during the holidays, or for a shopping trip to load up on goodies. Also, consider pairing it with a cute pencil skirt (tuck it in) for a quirkier, playful look. 🙂

I’m completely in love with this Oxblood Peplum Coat! I love how it zips asymmetrically and has the cute flairs at the hip–oh, and it comes with the belt…and it’s on sale! It’s a win, win, win.

This romantic Swing Dress with Lace Applique has me swooning…and dreaming of both The Great Gatsby and Downton Abbey! Holiday wear doesn’t have to be all red and green and metallics. This blush color is so unexpected and fresh…and the black grounds it for the colder months. Pair it with a glittery or velvety shrug for some added warmth.

Eloquii
OMG…did you know that EVERYTHING on their site is 50% off today??? Everything! And free shipping. Just enter FRIDAY50 at checkout and be amazed at the resulting price!

I’ve been lusting after this Python Pencil Skirt from Eloquii for a while now, and imagine how thrilled I was when I saw it on SALE…and with an additional 50% off! I scored this baby for like $19!

This creamy, faux-leather Trapunto Shoulder Bomber Jacket is luxe and fabulous. I don’t know what Trapunto means, but hey…I’m a fan. I would love to see this worn with a simple white Tshirt and some kickass jeans with a statement necklace. Effortless and cool is the name of the game.

And speaking of sexy tough-girl chic, check out this Leather and Lace Sheath Dress. So sexy!

I totally own this Faux Leather Pencil Skirt. It is to-die-for! It is understated enough to wear to the office, but unexpected enough to leave people guessing what you’ll be doing after you leave the office. 😉

Those are my Black Friday picks for full-figured and fabulous women! I’m sure there are tons of other deals going on, so write them in the comment box! Happy shopping!!!

Mad Men Monday: Jewel toned dress and a belted cardigan!

As I’ve said before…Mad Men fashion–and Joan Holloway’s specific style–is great for the plussize curvy girl. The ladylike hemlines and curve-hugging silhouettes give curvy girls so much to work with…and what better way to brighten up a Monday than with some sassy 60s inspired office wear? To kick off my new Mad Men Monday series, I’m sporting a deep purple, scoop neck, knee-length dress with pleating details at the bust and waist. Adding a cardigan and belting it accentuates the nipped-in waist that exemplifies the iconic style. If you are looking to recreate this style, choose dresses in dark, rich jewel tones and cardigans that come with sparkly accents.

Dress: Dressbarn; Cardigan via Macy’s; Ankle-strap Wedges: Sam Edelman

Also, no Mad Men Monday is complete without bright red lipstick and pearls!

I’m ready to go head to head with Don Draper!

Steampunk Fashion, Chicago Style

I’ve always been intrigued with the Steampunk subculture…Have you heard of it?? I love the mix of steam-powered imaginative gadgetry, Victorian/cowboy style fashion, retro-futuristic elements. When I heard that Steampunk Chicago was having their annual Carnivale Delirium event, I knew I had to jump at the chance to explore the scene! This was a cabaret/circus themed event…and it lived up to the hype with musical, acrobatic, vaudeville-esque, and magic acts taking the stage. But for me, the best part of the night was the crowd watching! Here’s a  peak behind the curtain of the Steampunk culture…

Now, you may be wondering why I am writing about Steampunk on a plus-size fashion blog? Well, because the Victorian era was very curve-friendly, and I’m dying to incorporate more elements of it into my wardrobe. I mean, who doesn’t love a good bustle??? And can we talk about CORSETS??? *Swoon.

In my next post, I’ll show you the outfit that I chose to wear to my first foray into Steampunk culture..and I’ll share some Victorian/Steampunk inspired finds that you can add to your own wardrobe. 🙂
