Plus size Prom Picks

Plus size Prom Picks

Prom is coming up soon!! When I was in the dressing room at Nordstrom Rack the other day, I overheard all of the girls talk about prom while they were trying on dresses. It made me think back to my prom and how much fun I had! My mom and I made my dress, and I felt so beautiful and glamorous!

However, we all know that being plus-size can present some challenges when shopping for special occasion dresses–especially for our curvy little sisters. So here are a few of my picks that I thought would be perfect for younger, curvy girls headed to the prom!

Are you a bit of a Drama Queen? Go for a long dress, full-skirted dress in a fresh, bright color, and don’t forget the sparkle! Here’s a gorgeous option from Sydney’s Closet: In Your Dreams Dress in Aqua.

Are you looking for something Fun and Flirty? Opt for a knee length dress with fun details like ruffles and sequins like this Trixxi Strapless Sequin Gathered Empire Dress from Macy’s.

OR this  Where’s the Party short dress in black confetti from Sydney’s Closet.

Are you going for a more Elegant look? Choose a longer silhouette with interesting beaded details and draping. Pick a gorgeous color that will look amazing on you. Here’s an elegant option from Nordstrom: Xscape Jeweled Draped Mesh Gown.

Or do you want to go Glam? Full-on shine and shimmer will definitely help you make an entrance! How about this Ruby Rox Sleeveless Sequin A-Line from Macy’s?

What do you think? Share your prom picks (or your prom memories) in the comment section!

I love all the prom options out now. I got my dress in 1998 at Von Maur (an Iowa Dept. store – like a small local Macy's.) There weren't many options, but I did love my dress. think modern Victorian. It was a dark sapphire blue, empire waist, A-line full skirt. The bodice had 1-1/2" straps (great for a supportive enhancing bra) with a square neckline and black beading over the blue. I wore it with my grandmother's pearls and a pearl beaded purse from the 1940s. I loved it. And I still do. I actually just packed it away again. I felt so glamourous. My wedding dress had the same neckline and A-line fit, but with sleeves (what was I thinking with the sleeves?)
