Even though the weather is still unpredictable here in Chicago, I was itching to break out some of my white jeans and colorful tops! I knew that I wanted a new pair of plus size white jeans for the spring/summer season, and Avenue was kind enough to send me these Virtual Stretch Slashed Knee Legging Jean. I chose this style because of the classic fit, the quality of fabric, the subtle distressing at the knee.

First of all, the quality of the fabric is awesome – you can’t see through it and it has a great stretch. The fabric  is a cotton/polyester/spandex blend that ensures that the jeans hug your curves and maintains their shape throughout the day. I chose a size 20 because I wanted to make sure that these white jeans would be roomy enough and not constrict me at the waist. They fit perfectly! I could have gotten away with a size 18, but these are going to be perfect when the temperatures rise (no sweaty sticky denim for me, thanks!).

These Avenue jeggings have a classic 5-pocket, straight leg silhouette which I love. It make them super versatile! And another thing — I liked the subtle distressing at the knee. They have a slash, but aren’t full of holes like a lot of this year’s denim. It’s so subtle that’s it’s actually hard to see the slashes on me.

And can we talk about this adorable Cold Shoulder Scarf Top, also from Avenue?! I love the bright, colorful print. The cold-shoulder trend is here to stay for a while, and I like this newer take on the trend. The top looks like two retro scarfs sewn together – and I love the square pattern with the butterfly-type sleeves. I knew this top would be perfect for the spring and summer season, since it’s so easy to wear! I love that it hits right at the hip, so I probably won’t be fidgeting and pulling it down all day! Another feature that I like? The black straps at the neck will disguise your bra straps, so no strapless bra torture device needed!

I know that shopping for plus size white jeans can take a toll on your body confidence…but let me assure you: IT’S NOT YOU, IT’S THEM! Although we see a lot of retailers now offering plus size white jeans, there are plenty of poorly-made pairs out there. Here’s a few shopping tips for purchasing the perfect pair of plus size white jeans!

Shopping Tips for Plus Size White Jeans

All white jeans are not created equal. Before you pull the trigger on your white jean purchase, be sure you’re taking a few things into account.

• Make sure they aren’t too sheer
  My number one issue with the majority of white jeans is that they are practically see-through! Before you buy a pair (or decide to keep a pair you’ve ordered online) hold them up to the light and check their thickness. When you try them on, be sure to check the front pockets. Can you see the pocket material through the front of the jeans? If so, send them back! Choose thicker, but breathable fabric so that you can see every bump and bulge. The key is to find a fabric that is thick enough so that you don’t see through it, but thin enough to be wearable in the warmer months.
• Pay attention to fit
  Put your vanity sizing on the back burner. Shopping for white jeans is not the time to feel bad about the size in the label. Your first consideration should be the waistband. Pick the pair that sit pleasantly on the hips and don’t dig into your waist. No muffin tops or camel toes! Try on several shapes and sizes, and remember, the size on the label means nothing. I like to look for a slim cut, but not too skinny, silhouette and I always make sure it has some stretch.
• Wear underwear that matches your skin tone (no white!)
  You might think that white underwear will go best under white jeans, but that’s not the case. They will stand out even more! Choose a color that matches your skin tone. I find that a soft pink looks best for me, but any nude variation will look more natural on light skin tones. Darker skin tones should go for darker shades of nude.
• Avoid embellishment
  I think white jeans look chic and elegant on their own and there’s no need for embellishment across the butt. Admittedly, this is a personal preference, but I think any kind of embellishment on the pockets of white jeans make them look less-expensive and verge into tacky territory. Opt for more classic, simple styles that will serve you for several seasons!
