How to Wear a Statement Tshirt: Notorious RBG

I’m so not a tshirt kind of gal, but sometimes one comes along that makes a ridiculously awesome statement and you just HAVE to have it. Case in point: this Notorious RBG tshirt from Spreadshirt. Do you have any idea how much of a badass Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsberg actually is? I just finished reading the BEST book called Notorious RBG: The Life and Times of Ruth Bader Ginsberg by Irin Carmon and Shana Knizhnik. I couldn’t put it down…every page revealed another fascinating and fantastic layer to RBG’s unapologetic and fierce life-long fight for women and civil rights. It’s a poignant and passionate glimpse into a remarkable woman and her career…and the book itself is a perfect blend of chatty insights and hardcore biographical facts. Seriously…I loved the book, and was so inspired that I HAD to have a tshirt.

Plus Size Winter Wear: Librarian Prep

I’m seriously channeling my inner librarian in this preppy outfit! When I saw this Calvin Klein Red and Black Abstract Print dress at Macy’s, I fell in love. The thick material was so unique…almost a damask or brocade. And it had a super interesting shape — nipped in at the waist and arched out in a bubble. I knew that I could bring my librarian prep-look to life if I just added a bow-neck long sleeve top from Forever 21 and some black tights. Voila, today’s OOTD was born!

Classic Look with a Neon Twist: Sporty OOTD in Calvin Klein and Eloquii

What’s more classic than a black pencil skirt and a white top? But add some neon pumps, some quirky jewelry and leather accents, and you have a modern, fun twist on a classic outfit. Perfect for injecting some creativity in the daily grind of my office wardrobe.

This great plussize Calvin Klein top from Macy’s has mesh inserts at the shoulder and some wrap ruching details that walk the line between sporty and classic. And I absolutely love this leather panel pencil skirt I scored at Eloquii before they transitioned to an online store. The funky beaded necklace I picked up at Forever21 for almost nothing…and the neon peep toe heels were a great find from DSW last season. Who says fashion has to always be new???

When you want to add a bit of fun to an outfit–with a statement necklace and statement heels, keep the rest of your outfit simple and classic. That’s the way to really make it pop!

Fabulous Fatkini: Daring to Wear a Plussize Two-Piece Swimsuit

In my last post, I shared some of the cutest plussize bikinis that have been cropping up everywhere this season. I just had to try one…and when I stopped into Forever 21 last week and found this adorable Fruit Frenzy two-piece, I positively swooned! I know this look isn’t for everyone, but if you are confident and daring, try one out this season!

The fruit and foliage pattern of this swimsuit is so kitschy and fun! The ruffles on the bust and the hips definitely add some flirty movement–that kept flying up in the wind! I like that the top comes with detachable straps and has a little peekaboo cleavage — or as Katy Perry likes to call it, “A Boob Window.” I had to size up because my bust is larger than my bottom, so they were a little saggy in the back…but a simple alteration can fix them in no time!

The key to a great plussize two-piece is the high-waisted bottoms. This is vital to smooth the line of your tummy, and show just a little bit of your midriff. I felt flirty, cool and daring in this swimsuit, and I can’t wait to wear it when the weather gets warm (it was about 40 degrees during this photoshoot!!!!).

Simple and Sexy: Black Leather Pants, Red Gucci Pumps

Yes, I finally broke down and bought the amazing Tabasco Red Gucci Pumps that I’d been lusting after at Nordstrom for months.

And what is the perfect foil to hot red heels? Black leather, of course. These shoes were just screaming for good-girl-gone-dark and sexy look…so, I pulled out my faux-leather panel leggings from ASOS Curve (similar here), paired it with a sequined Tshirt from Forever 21 (similar here), and voila! A simple and sexy look was born.

These pictures are actually a few test shots I did of the outfit before debuting it for New Year’s Eve. It ended up being a perfect NYE outfit…comfortable, laid back and warmer than I usually dress!
