Scream Queens Inspo: Plus Size Chanel Coat Look

I love the classic Chanel Coat and periodically go hunting for something that will give me that posh, sophisticated look, without the price tag (not to mention that Chanel doesn’t make plus sizes!). After binge-watching Scream Queens on Netflix a few months ago, I went crazy trying to find something that gave me that same over-the-top Chanel look and feel. And low and behold…I found this amazing plus size Tahari ASL Faux Pearl Trim Boucle Tweed Jacket at Macy’s! (Sadly, it’s already sold out.) At first glance, this jacket might seem a little old-lady-ish, but when you add a short body-con tunic dress, piles of pearls, and some thigh-high boots, the look gets a little younger, edgier and Scream Queen-worthy!

3 Easy Steps for a Plus Size #GirlBoss Work Outfit

Let’s hear it for all of the amazing plus size #GirlBosses out there! How do you look fabulous at the office, and still look professional? Here’s 3 easy steps that I follow when dressing for the office…
3 Easy Steps to a Plus Size #GirlBoss Wardrobe by Amber from Style Plus Curves

First, pick dresses or tops strong colors that flatter your skin tone and show your shape, but can still be considered modest. Next, find a great bag in an unexpected color that is large enough to fit an extra pair of shoes for your commute, all of your daily essentials and your electronics. The 3rd essential part of a #GirlBoss outfit is of course…shoes! Choose shoes that make a statement–such as a unique animal print–but opt out of the sky-high strappy heels. Try to find shoes that you won’t be limping in by the end of the day. I’m the first to admit that I don’t always follow my own advice to “wear shoes that are comfortable to walk in,” but I’m trying!

This Tahari by ASL Dress is an absolute dream! I got it on sale at Macy’s but sadly, it’s no longer available. But I did spot a few left on 6pm.com, so check here to see if they have your size!

It’s such an amazing rich cobalt blue color, in a shape that is ridiculously flattering. The hem is just above the knee for me (I’m 5’9), and the 3/4 length sleeves are perfect for an all-season dress like this. Gold details at the neckline and the cap of the tie belt add some extra pizzazz that is perfectly set off by gold accessories.

Fashion’s Night Out Chicago, Part 2: The Events!

Fashion’s Night Out Chicago was awesome! I wish that there were more events in Chicago that were specifically for plus-sizes, but the “Cupcakes, Curves and Cleavage” event at Vive La Femme made up for it. Here is a quick overview of my night….

First Stop: Lane Bryant
I got out of work at 5:30 and even though I didn’t see anything advertised at Lane Bryant, I decided to stop there first. They didn’t have any shopping discounts or anything like that, but I was pleasantly surprised that they had live models in the windows of the Chicago store! The gorgeous models attracted quite a crowd, and I think it was a success. Maybe next year, they’ll do something more for FNO, but this was a good start. Here are a couple of not-so-great pictures of the live windows at Lane Bryant in Chicago.

Second Stop: Macy’s on State Street
Next, I decided to stop into Macy’s on State Street, even though they didn’t have anything directly relevant to curvy girl fashion. BUT…I did get to see Kelly Osbourne, who was there promoting the new Material Girl Collection. She was charming and looked adorable…even though I wish she wasn’t so skinny. lol. In my unsolicited and biased opinion, she looked more natural when she was a bit more filled out.

Anyway, this was a quick stop, as I wanted to make my way to the star event of the night…
