Sometimes you stumble upon an item that is practically perfect in every way. Tweed? Check. Red and Black Plaid? Check. Warm and cozy with a hint of sparkle? Check, check, check. The fit is perfect and the style is on point. This gave me major #girlboss vibes the moment I put it on. Add a pencil skirt, some heels and a structured tote, and you are totally going to win your office fashion war! Find it here at Lane Bryant…and guess what? It’s on major sale!!!

I LOVE getting dressed up in fancy dresses and wearing my high, super sparkly (and impractical) heels…but the reality is…I have a day job and can’t wear most of my fun and flirty outfits to the office. Most days, I have to look professional and put my #girlboss chops to work. Anyone who has ever worked in an office knows that it’s easy to get stuck in a workwear wardrobe rut. That’s why I make a point to reinterpret classic combos in fresh ways.
Have you heard all of the amazing news from Lane Bryant and their #PlusisEqual campaign for New York Fashion Week? I’ve been loving all of the pictures posted by my fellow plus size bloggers and models who were lucky enough to be in NY for the launch party. So, instead of being jealous, I am celebrating here in Chicago by featuring an all Lane Bryant outfit. And YES, that is a CAMO SEQUIN PENCIL SKIRT!! Lane Bryant put out this Camo Sequin Pencil Skirt a month or two ago and I was obsessed from the minute I saw it. Did you know that the fashion gods have deemed sequins appropriate for day wear?? Well, I wanted to test that out and came up with this work-to-event look — entirely from Lane Bryant.
Lane Bryant Outfit: Camo Sequin Pencil Skirt; Distressed Denim Jean Jacket; Grosgrain Tank in Veiled Rose; Metallic Strappy Heel in Rose Quartz
Pairing this amazing camo skirt with a blush pink tank top plays with the idea of hard/soft…and the addition of the jean jacket adds a casual element that makes this whole outfit work for daytime. Simply remove the jacket to transition to evening!
A note on sizing: the camo pencil skirt runs small — order one or two sizes up! Also, if you have wide width feet, you’ll love these heels — so pretty and very roomy!!
I also decided to try out the Cobalt Eyeshadow trend with this look…very dramatic — but still not sure how I feel about it! lol
So, there you have it. Be bold and wear those sequins to the office — I know you want to!
Around the holidays, I get a craving for classic looks and timeless silhouettes… And what can be more classic than cashmere?? This Jessica London Cotton Cashmere Sweater in a bright raspberry is just what the holiday season ordered. The high boatneck is modest and classy, the bright color adds a little sass, and the tunic length lends this sweater some versatility…and did I mention it is cashmere?!
This sweater was just screaming to be paired with a pencil skirt…I could have tucked it and gone for more of a pin-up look, but I chose to cinch it with a belt to still enhance the hourglass shape, but maintain the classic lines.
If you have a cashmere sweater hiding in the back of your closet, bring it out, throw on a pencil skirt and take your sassy self to the office. Hope you’re all having a wonderful holiday season so far!
Pencil skirts are a curvy girl’s best friend! I’ve said it countless times…but every time I put one on, I feel so powerful and shapely, that I have to say it again. Buy a pencil skirt….or 10. This floral printed Kiyonna pencil skirt will be a PERFECT start to your pencil skirt collection…or another fabulous addition! This one I ordered through my Gwynnie Bee account, and love it so much, I think I’m going to buy it!
You can absolutely opt for a basic black top, since this skirt’s bright colors bloom right off the fabric…but I went for a bright yellow draped-neck top from Eloquii that made the yellows in the skirt truly pop. Tuck the top in, and pull the pencil skirt up high on your abdomen, then cinch it with a belt….and that’s a recipe for fabulousness!
Some of you might be wondering…what? She wears glasses??? And when did her hair get so long??? Haha…well, no, I don’t wear glasses. I bought these at Claire’s and pull them out when I’m feeling particularly sassy. AND…I have in clip-in hair extensions!!! I’ll tell you all about it in another post, but for now let me just say that I’m a fan!
So, have I convinced you of the power of the pencil skirt? If you’re not sure, then add this one from Kiyonna to your Gwynnie Bee closet and play around with it. That’s what Gwynnie Bee is all about…having fun with fashion!
Ok, my lovelies. I’m headed to Memphis for the weekend! Keep an eye on my Instagram and Twitter feeds @stylepluscurves to see what I’m up to. xoxo
