I’m obsessed with ORANGE this season! Admittedly, this obsession started immediately after I tried on this Simply Be Pleated Dress with Lace Detail. This plus size dress comes in this bright tomato color and it is EVERYTHING. Case in point:
Simply Be Plus Size Dress with Lace Detail and Pleats
If you haven’t heard of Simply Be yet, prepare to be amazed! This European brand has got a fabulous selection of plus size dresses, skirts and everything in between! Check them out for sure when you’re buying your spring/summer wardrobe!
I wore this amazing dress to an event today at Macy’s hosted by Shai from Drunk on Shoes. It was great to see a lot of local Chicago style bloggers out and about, and Shai is so friendly and fun. Check out my Instagram for pictures from the event!
I’m a southern girl from Alabama, and I grew up with overflowing hydrangea bushes in my front yard. So I had to have this amazing Plus Size Hydrangea Print Dress from City Chic the moment I saw it! The print is so bold and saturated, and the shape is flirty and feminine–complete with a tulle underskirt that helps the skirt flare out in a fabulous full way.
I don’t know what it is about bright floral prints on dark, moody backgrounds, but I’m completely obsessed! My newest acquisition is this moody and romantic AX Paris Double Layer Midi Dress from Simply Be. It’s dark, it’s romantic…it’s classy…and it fits like a glove. The scuba knit is a little thicker and lays very nicely over all my bumps and bulges. The midi length is perfect, hitting just below the knee on my 5’9 frame, and I’m always a fan of elbow-length sleeves. The high neckline provides coverage, while the tighter fit reveals your shape. I ordered a size up since I knew this was a body-con style, and I’m so glad I did!
My sister took these pictures after a long road trip–so I have no makeup on and look tired, but still feel fabulous in this dress!
I love designing my own custom plus size dresses, and there’s a new online shop that allows you to customize dresses from size 0 to size 36! It’s called K Couture. You can customize an existing design or use their “Design a Dress” feature to create your own look from a selection of elements like the sleeves, the neckline, the fabric, the waistline, and the length. I totally got sucked into spending hours playing around with all the different colors, cuts and options–so don’t be surprised if you get obsessed with their site.
In the end, I ordered the Skyler Bubble Dress in a deep Emerald Green in a size 20 with a boatneck and 3/4 length sleeves. Look at that rich emerald green taffeta! Love the color and the sheen. And the pleats around the skirt make the perfect bubble shape! (I know, I know…I should have used a steamer before the photo shoot!)
A note of caution, though: K Couture dresses can run a bit smaller than department store sizing, so USE THE SIZE CHART and take your measurements! Do NOT skip this step! I was sloppy with my measurements and ordered a size 20, but I really should have ordered an additional size up! If your measurements don’t fit into one of the size chart ranges, then order for the biggest part of your body. Since mine is my chest and shoulders, I should have probably ordered a size 22. You can see that this dress is a bit tight in the chest and arms, and it’s entirely my fault.
There are a few things I could have done to prevent this from happening:
- Use the Size Chart
- Take accurate measurements (Here’s a helpful blog post about this)
- Call the knowledgeable K Couture stylists for free at 855-612-5426 if you are unsure of what size is best, or if you might need a custom size.
If you try these things and you still end up with a dress that is too tight in one spot or another, call K Couture and they will help you.
Nevertheless, I LOVE this dress and think it’s perfect for upcoming holiday parties!
Also, did I mention that K Couture dresses are designed and made from quality fabrics in-house, right here in the United States, and shipping is always free?
So, whether you are a guest at an upcoming wedding, picking out bridesmaids dresses, have a formal dinner on the calendar, or you just love dressing up, try out the custom plus size dress options at K Couture!
I go totally nuts for a great silhouette, and I’m always on the lookout for something different than an empire waist, a-line, or sheath dress. During Nordstrom’s Anniversary Sale, I found this amazing Belted Cap Sleeve Teal Dress from Sejour. What a great color, right? A creamy blue teal is so dreamy and the shape…the shape! It’s a cross between a cocoon dress and a butterfly dress, and it’s all about the drapey folds and tie belt in the front, while the back falls in a straight line to the knee.
To really set off the dress, I knew I had to have a killer statement necklace. So my friends at Happiness Boutique (an online jewelry and clothing boutique out of Europe) were kind enough to send me this fabulous piece. It’s a gold collar necklace with metal dangling bits and an old-world, vintage feel. It’s already sold out on their site, but check out the other amazing statement necklaces that Happiness Boutique carries here.
I finished this unique look off with some gold chain platform wedges that I found at Nordstrom Rack a while ago…
I felt confident and stylish all day in this outfit. The Sejour belted dress runs large, so order a size down…and if you’re scoping it out in stores, just try it. It has little hanger appeal, but looks totally different once your curves are filling it out!
What are the new shapes that you’re seeing out in the shops or on the streets? Anything you’ve been dying to try? Tell me in the comments!
