A strong color like this can carry another strong color, so I paired it with turquoise accessories for even more punch. I kept the shoes simple with nude pumps, and that was it.

This dress is exactly what I want out of my summer wardrobe — great color, light fabric, terrific cut and super flattering. If they’re already sold out of the Coral when you get there, it comes in black too!!!

Plus Size Americana Style from Kohl’s for July 4th

Hey y’all!!!! Let’s hear it for a long weekend of American classics–BBQ, roasted corn, hot dogs, potato salad and all the fixings! Celebrating July 4 in style calls for red, white and blue and denim! Plus Size Summer Essentials: The Floral Dress from Kohl’s

Summer is nearly here, and if you don’t have a floral dress in your wardrobe, get on it stat! Florals are a major trend this season — coming in every shade and combination — so pick the one that shows off your flair the best! When Kohl’s asked me what my summer essentials were for the plus size market, I knew that floral dresses were number one on my list. Proper, minimalist or bohemian, short or maxi, floral dresses are abundant. This adorable black, white and gray sleeveless dress is Apt. 9 from Kohl’s, and it has already become a go-to item in my closet!

I love the kind of abstract, but kind of photographic floral print. And the fabric is a fabulous stretch polyester knit which holds its shape and looks amazing though multiple wears.

I could have gone bold with my accessories, but was feeling more demure — so I paired it with blush pink pearls and wedges. Very ladylike, right??

And there’s a cutout detail on the back! The scoop neck is modest and appropriate for work, and the cutout detail on the back adds flair, without being too revealing.

Plussize Fashion: Finding the Great White Suit

Ok, I admit it, until today, I’ve never actually worn a white suit… and the one pair of white linen pants I bought 6 years ago languished in my closet…unloved and unworn. But white is having a major moment right now, and I’ve recently had visions of bright white suits dancing in my head–so elegant, fresh and refined. Well, I will NOT be denied. When I saw the spring collection from Jessica London, I knew it was time to make the dream of the “great white suit” a reality.

The trick to a white suit for plussize women is to make sure the pants are streamlined…while the material is thick enough to lay nicely and not see-through. These Jessica London Stretch Denim Jeggings were just right for my shape! I like a very slim fit through the leg, and I balance the look with a looser top half. An elastic waistband makes for easy on-and-off and lays flat underneath your shirts, instead of the bulk of a button and zipper. Also, I love that they hit right at the ankle, which shows off your cute summer sandals and pedi perfectly!

I’m So Miami-Vicing it here, right???

This Jessica London Single-Breasted Linen Blazer in white has a nice weight to it and looks fantastic paired with white denim jeggings. For those of you who like a roomier, boxier fit to your blazers, this one is meant for you! Many of my plussize gal pals like blazers that cover their bums and hang below the hips, so if that is what you’re looking for, I encourage you to try this one. It does run a bit big, so I would recommend sizing down.

As I write this post, it’s actually snowing here in Chicago–and YES, it’s April. But I know that summer has to come eventually…and when it does, see if you can spot me in this great white suit prowling around the city!

Simple Summer BBQ Style

Last night, I went to a fantastic backyard BBQ. I had a blast, but it was a little bittersweet, since it was hosted by my good friends who are moving to Utah at the end of the month. So…it was a goodbye summer and goodbye friends party. 🙁

For this outfit, I wasn’t trying to be super fashionable. I just wanted to be cool, comfortable and cute while outside around a campfire. Since I’m always partial to dresses, I dragged this groovy-patterned sundress out of the back of my closet and paired it with a brown shrug and some simple gold sandals. It was quite a breezy night though, and I had a few near-flashing incidents. lol.
