Nordstrom’s Encore Section = Heaven

Seriously…my friends have all heard me complain about the horrible clothes–or NO clothes–that most stores offer plus-size women. The stores that do have a plus-size section often fill their racks with shapeless cotton-blend sacks that make bigger women look like a sad balloon that is starting to deflate after a disappointing party.

BUT, ladies–there IS hope!!! I was recently at Nordstrom (not my usual shopping ground since I’m somewhat cheap) and I wandered into the plus-size section that they call Encore. I’m telling you…I’ve never felt so pretty or stylish! The staff was friendly, offering suggestions that were pretty perfect not just for my body type…but for my age, and what little they could tell of my personality. If I had more money in my account, and wasn’t about to go to Vegas…I swear I would have blown my whole paycheck!!! But, I ended up buying 3 things that I’m sure I’m going to wear everyday here in Chicago…once the weather turns cooler, that is. Want to see???

One A Stripe Trim Cardigan
I absolutely LOVE the cascading folds on the front of this cardigan and the button details on the sleeves. It is extremely flattering and very easy to wear. This is going to be one of my most worn tops this fall, I’m sure!!

Sejour Sheer Knit Tee
Even though this is a higher neckline than I usually wear (I love to show off my girls, if ya know what I mean), with a black tank underneath, it shows just the right amount of skin to be alluring. And it’s oh-so-soft…but it is pretty delicate material, so I have to be very careful not to snag it on anything!

Not Your Daughter’s Jeans Flare Leg Stretch
AHHHHHHHHH Can I possibly explain how my heart leapt in my chest when I tried these on in the dressing room??? They are seriously the most comfortable, slimming jeans that I’ve ever put on my body. AND…they didn’t push up the dreaded muffin top…or squeeze the belly to create the unfortunate FUPA look. They were on sale for $85 (which is more than I’ve ever paid for jeans), but I had to have them!

Has anyone else started shopping for Fall?? What are your favorite purchases so far??

Two Words: GOR-GEOUS

Have you seen the June cover of Vogue Italia? I nearly swooned! It features three plus-size models–who are not afraid to bare their curves. The pictures are absolutely beautiful!

The Question of the Jumpsuit

Hahaha. Jumpsuits are supposed to be a new look for spring ’11. The 70s are coming back…and I actually LOVE some of the styles.

Recently, I was seduced by this black AGB Jumpsuit from Macy’s. Cute right???

WRONG. lol. Well, at least wrong for my body. I’m kind of between and apple and an hourglass figure…so the wide leg pant with the high belted waist made me seem like half a humpty-dumpty. From the waist up, it looked great. From the waist down, YUCK.
I really hope that the jumpsuit works for some plus-size bodies, because this is a look I would love to see on some of my larger ladies.
I guess I have to return it on Monday. *sigh. I’m just bummed that I had to order it online and now am out the shipping costs. 🙁 So here’s my advice, ladies: try the jumpsuit, but don’t be horrified at the results. Just know that it’s a hard thing to pull off. lol. Also, try to find it in an actual store…or from somewhere that has free returns!

New Girl on the Block

Hey there! I’m a plus-size woman who is doing her best to live a “big, beautiful life.” I live in Chicago. I am absolutely addicted to shopping…I love dresses and shoes and jewelry and bags and all things pretty!
Here’s the problem though…I don’t really have the money to spend on the fabulous wardrobe in my mind. And on top of that…being a full-figured woman turns the pleasurable pastime of shopping into an Olympic-size sport fraught with disappointment, frustration, and danger. lol.
Being fat, fashionable AND financially responsible is not easy. That’s why I’m starting this blog. I want to challenge myself to take more fashion risks while staying inside my budget.
I’m not a fashion goddess or anything, and I’m pretty sure I’ll come up with some fashion fails…but I’m going to document my journey. 🙂
I’m not sure if I’ll ever have any readers…but I know there are plenty of gorgeous, plus-size fabulous women out there who struggle to put together great outfits with the dregs that the fashion industry leaves for us plump, curvy, busty, full-figured, voluptuous, heavy, Rubenesque gals.
