When I was growing up, my Mom used to make our clothes, and it was an incredible feeling to know that there was something being made especially for you and with your input. Once I got older and started shopping for myself in ready-to-wear retail stores, I forgot how amazing it felt to wear a garment customized for my body. That is…until I discovered eShakti a few years ago! I’ve collaborated with eShakti on a few reviews over the years, and I thought it was time to feature them again*. Especially when I saw this beautiful dupioni silk dress in this amazing bird floral print!

eShakti is a fast fashion online retailer with hundreds and hundreds of designs and fabrics that can all be customized to suit your preferences and your size. The size range is ridiculously inclusive — offering sizes 0-36W. Each design has a set of customizations that you can choose from such as neckline shape, sleeve type/length, and hem length. And you can also customize the fit further by entering your height and measurements for an additional fee (but it’s free for first time customers!). After you choose your design, customize it and place your order, it should be delivered in 10-14 days.

The first step in the eShakti process is to pick your design. This can be a little overwhelming because they have tons of options. Right now, there’s over 900 dresses on the site, not to mention the tops, skirts and pants! To make it more manageable, I like to start with the New Arrivals and then filter by a price range or a particular fabric that you like. I perused several pages of designs before this eShakti Bird Print Floral Dupioni Midi Dress jumped off the screen. The fabric was so luscious and beautiful that I had to have it.

Next, you need to take a look at the sizing chart. This part is critical, and you need to know your measurements to pick the standard size that best fits you. I keep my measurements in a note on my phone for easy reference! If you have one part of your body that is larger than the others and is often hard to fit, then choose “Custom Size” and put in your measurements. This is especially useful if you are top or bottom heavy or have a larger waist, but smaller hips or chest. Put in your height so that the hem of your garment will hit at the proper place. Then comes the fun part!

You get to choose your neckline and sleeve style and even the length of the dress! For my dress, I chose a wide V neckline and elbow length sleeves. I also didn’t want the original midi length of the design, so I changed it to above the knee. Oh, and I actually am one of the few people who hate pockets in my dresses, so I love that there’s the option to remove the pockets from your dress!

There is something special that happens when you slip on a dress that has been made according to your preferences and tailored to fit your measurements. It feels so special! My dress arrived right on time, and it fit perfectly. I loved the wide v neckline and the elbow-length sleeves. And I love that it hit just above the knee! It’s such a gorgeous fabric and I know it’s going to make many appearances this spring!
