Did you know that I used to teach English at the middle school and high school levels? AND I even taught English Composition and Communications courses at the college level here in Chicago! Even though I didn’t have a strict dress code, I wanted to look a little sophisticated and at least appear older than my students! I always stayed away from jeans for the most part and avoided anything too revealing.
When Lane Bryant asked me to showcase an outfit I would wear in the classroom, I wanted to focus on color and comfort! I wanted to be on-trend, but not over the top. So I chose a hot color combo for this fall – mauve and burgundy.
I also focused on separates – because as a teacher, you want maximum versatility in your wardrobe so you can mix and match as much as possible. These cropped trousers are fun and sophisticated. They’ve got a nice stretch, so I don’t feel uncomfortable sitting behind a desk or leaning over one of my student’s shoulders.
I paired it with a tank top in the same mauve-rose shade for a chic monochromatic base.
To add color and dimension, I topped the outfit off with this fantastic embroidered mesh kimono top in this rich wine color!
Lastly, I opted for stylish flats so that standing at the whiteboard and moving around the room would not leave me in pain by the end of the day! And of course, this fun little double-strand necklace matched my color scheme and pulled together the outfit perfectly.
TEACHERS – what are you wearing to school these days?! Tell me!
