Styling Plus Size Fall Skirts

Recently, I’ve been sharing some Amazon Finds and I got the sweetest message asking how I would style one of the fall skirts for plus size. The colors and fun print drew me to the one they asked about, but when I looked a little deeper into the listing, I saw that it wouldn’t ship for weeks! I’m a fast shipping girlie, so I immediately started looking for other options with a similar vibe. Luckily pleated midi skirts are everywhere, and I found another one that is equally as unique, so let’s do a little virtual styling sesh with both!

Of course I’ll use the teal with orange floral print skirt I found on Amazon, and then I also found this brown, cream and pink option. When you have a really fun, bright and bold prints like these, you want to let it be the star of the show. So when styling the rest of my outfit, I pick a color that coordinates with the color palette and shapes that balance the silhouette – and won’t overwhelm the skirt.

I have a simple formula that works every time when styling a simple pull-on midi skirt like these for fall: chunky sweater, ankle boots, oversized bag. And a hat if you’re a little more daring!

Fall Skirt Styling Option 1

Since teal is the main event in the skirt – I would choose the other elements of the outfit in tones of cream, or rusty orangey brown.

For sweaters – there are 2 options I would explore: A textured, slightly oversized sweater or a chunky knit cropped cardigan with a tank top underneath. This chunky beige knit sweater from Target is cozy and has a rich texture that I love. I would do a little front tuck to help show off my waist and balance the silhouette.

For ankle boots, you could stick to the cream and give the outfit a lighter feel or ground it with a rusty brown or tan. I love these but I don’t think they are wide-ankle friendly. And then bags can run the gamut here – a fuzzy chunky tote could be fun, or a more refined crossbody option would work too.

And for a bit of drama – add a hat!

Fall Skirt Styling Option 2

I love the geometric print in this skirt, it gives a ton of visual interest. The neutral tones are great too if you’re not someone who likes bright colors.

For this one, let’s go the chunky cardi route! I would keep it cropped so that you preserve the long lines of the skirt, but you could also do a longer line, smooth knit option if you keep it open. Pair it with a tank or slim fitting base top in either a brown or cream color.

For ankle boots, I would do a sleeker, cleaner look for this skirt. And I would pair it with the same saddle crossbody bag to complete the classy look!

OK, there you have it! Two ways I would style a plus size fall skirt. Which one would you wear?
