Plus Size Formal Gowns from Macy’s

Macy’s has a great selection of plus size formal gowns. They carry many brands that just seem to get it RIGHT when it comes to designing dresses for the plus size body. Some of my favorite brands are Adrianna Papell, Xscape, Betsy & Adam, etc. Selection in stores is actually kind of spotty and it really depends on your local Macy’s, so if you have time, I would recommend shopping online for your plus size formal gowns.

Red and Polished

Let’s start with my signature color: RED. This gorgeous XSCAPE Plus Size Off-The-Shoulder Gown in this vibrant red has a tailored, portrait collar that frames your face and shoulders beautifully. A faux wrap creates a flattering line across the mid-section. The hem hits right at the ankle on me (I’m 5’9), so wear some fun sparkly shoes that you want to show off.

Does anyone else get “Pretty Woman” vibes from this dress?? No? Just me??

This brand definitely runs SMALL, so size up for sure. If you’re apple shaped and chesty, you might want to order 2 sizes up, since this tailored waist does not have stretch. I’m usually a size 18/20. This dress was size 18 and I couldn’t zip it up all the way in the back! I should have ordered the 20 or the 22, but I didn’t have time before my photoshoot!

Short and Sweet

What is more precious and perfect than a pale pink cocktail dress with pink and white sequin flower embroidery? This Adrianna Papell Plus Size V-Neck Tulle & Lace Dress is a dreamy little number and you can tell by my ear-to-ear smile that this was one of my favorites!

I felt cute and flirty and glowing! The v-neck is tasteful and wide straps cover your shoulders and your bra straps, which is a bonus! Simple, dainty jewelry and barely-there heels finish off the look.

Pretty and Dramatic

I’m obsessed with this Adrianna Papell Plus Size V-Neck Embroidered Gown! The gray color with the pink floral embroidery on the top mesh layer is SO dramatic and beautiful.

This is not a dress that hits you in the face – it has a gentle, romantic feel that still makes a statement! I love the maxi length and the multiple layers of fabric. This is perfect for a late afternoon garden wedding or any black tie gala you might be attending this summer.

Dark and Sultry

Black mesh over nude lining is a classic pairing for a reason. This Betsy & Adam Plus Size Soutache Godet Gown looks sultry and elegant in this color pairing. This dress has a pretty simple and easy-to-wear shape – it’s just a long sheath.

But some flair is added with the pattern of the mesh overlay and the mermaid hem. The v-neck is not too deep (I actually wanted it deeper!) and the hem is just a smidge shorter than I would have liked. But if you’re shorter than 5’9, it will probably be perfect for you!

Elegant and Bold

Who doesn’t love a pink fuchsia dress? This Adrianna Papell Plus Size Off-The-Shoulder Jersey Gown is such a bold color and yet elegant with the off-the-shoulder and draped design! I felt playful in this dress, so I paired it with colorful, chunky jewelry and gold strappy heels.

My only note is that the lining of this dress got a little crumpled, so keep an eye on that when you’re wearing it!
