Plus Size Shapewear for Apple Shapes

Let’s talk about shapewear! Specifically, shapewear and no-show underwear for babes who identify as apple shapes – like me! So many plus size shapewear options focus on smoothing the hips, thighs and bum area. But that was never where I wanted the most support. My shapewear needs all center around my belly and midsection! For years, my favorite go-to brand has been Spanx, but we are in a shapewear renaissance! Recently, there are a number of new brands (like SKIMS) who have begun offering shapewear and seamless underwear in plus sizes! Since there are so many options, I thought I’d do a roundup of plus size shapewear and no-show underwear that smooth the midsection area for apple shapes!

High Waisted Panties and Seamless Underwear

High waisted panties are my go-to everyday solution for when I want a smoother midsection. Most panties or underwear compress the bottom part of my belly, leaving the midsection (above my belly button) unsupported. My solution? I look for shapewear that will literally cover my whole stomach – all the way up to my bra, if possible!

Spanx Higher Power Shaper Panties are my absolute favorite. I wear them nearly every day. They are light enough to not interfere with your daily activities and they don’t roll down, since they can basically reach to your bra. They offer smoothing – not a ton of compression. So basically, they will slightly smooth out your stomach and waist, but will not contour or dramatically change your shape. I love them because they help my clothes lay nicer and they aren’t bulky or too tight.

Open Bust Camis and Bodysuits

My other go-to solution is an open-bust cami. This is like a tank top with thin straps that has an open yoke area for your bust. They usually go all the way over the hips and come up high in the back. I like these open bust camis because they also smooth your tummy but also your upper back. Sometimes my bra causes dips and rolls in the back, and since this cami goes over your bra, it smooths out those lines. I also prefer to wear the cami instead of the high waisted panties when I’m wearing jeans or pants. It feels more comfortable to have the support and smoothing coming from the top down instead of the bottom-up. Does that make sense? Lol. I often wear the cami over jeans instead of tucking it in. I love the way sweaters and tops slide over it and it eliminates the bulkiness of your jean’s waistband.

The ones I have are so old that the brand tags have worn off, so I don’t even know where I got them! But thankfully, there are a ton of options out there for plus size open bust camis and bodysuits.
