I love my high-heels. Like…really really love them. But, unfortunately, they don’t always love me back. I have all sorts of feet issues and a few long-standing injuries that sometimes prevent me from wearing my gorgeous, colorful, happy heels…and put me on the “flatline.” I’m always on the lookout for cute shoes that don’t embarrass my feet and can keep up with my hectic on-the-go schedule. And ladies…I’m happy to introduce you to a young company fresh on the market….with a new crop of foot-friendly, style-conscious styles: Alegria Shoes.
I was thrilled when they contacted me for a review, and spent a lot
of time looking through all of their styles and options…since it is
still freezing here in Chicago and we’re not entirely out of danger of
snow, I opted to try a more classic, year-round style in a not so
classic color: Alegria Paloma Blue Tile Mary Janes!
These shoes were originally made for nurses…so they know a thing or two about being on your feet all day! Each style features hidden benefits, including an anatomically correct
interlocking footbed system, that forms to the natural contours of your
foot for maximum support, improved posture and all-day comfort.
Halfway through the day, my feet are feeling good! No inflammation or pain points.
And after a full work day and a 4 hour shopping trip, I’m waiting for the train in comfort. I could feel that the footbed of the shoe had molded to the shape of my foot, and the pads of my feet were not throbbing as they usually do after a full day.
If you need to take a break from your heels or spend a lot of time on your feet, check out Alegria and walk around in comfort and style! Here’s some adorable styles from their spring collection:
How much do you love the Houndstooth?? And the sandals with the skull and crossbones? Cute!
Prom is coming up soon!! When I was in the dressing room at Nordstrom Rack the other day, I overheard all of the girls talk about prom while they were trying on dresses. It made me think back to my prom and how much fun I had! My mom and I made my dress, and I felt so beautiful and glamorous!
However, we all know that being plus-size can present some challenges when shopping for special occasion dresses–especially for our curvy little sisters. So here are a few of my picks that I thought would be perfect for younger, curvy girls headed to the prom!
Are you a bit of a Drama Queen? Go for a long dress, full-skirted dress in a fresh, bright color, and don’t forget the sparkle! Here’s a gorgeous option from Sydney’s Closet: In Your Dreams Dress in Aqua.
Are you looking for something Fun and Flirty? Opt for a knee length dress with fun details like ruffles and sequins like this Trixxi Strapless Sequin Gathered Empire Dress from Macy’s.
OR this Where’s the Party short dress in black confetti from Sydney’s Closet.
Are you going for a more Elegant look? Choose a longer silhouette with interesting beaded details and draping. Pick a gorgeous color that will look amazing on you. Here’s an elegant option from Nordstrom: Xscape Jeweled Draped Mesh Gown.
Or do you want to go Glam? Full-on shine and shimmer will definitely help you make an entrance! How about this Ruby Rox Sleeveless Sequin A-Line from Macy’s?
What do you think? Share your prom picks (or your prom memories) in the comment section!
OK ladies…When I heard about EyeMajic Eye Shadow applicators, I thought…seriously? Putting eye shadow on isn’t really that complicated, so who needs a shortcut?? Well, after trying it for the first time, I swear I’m a total convert!
The company sent me three different color combinations to try…but I HAD to do the leopard print for this review. I mean…it’s LEOPARD PRINT EYE SHADOW!!! How could I resist? lol
1. Start by staring soulfully at yourself in the mirror. (haha that’s a joke)
2. Next, open up your EyeMajic package–they come in packets of two–and peel off the clear backing.
3. Read the directions–It is so easy that it truly feels like magic.
A side note: Don’t try to peel anything off of the applicator. There’s no back on it!
4. Position the applicator above your lash line….
5. Press and hold it for a few seconds….(I would NOT recommend sliding the leopard print version, or the spots might not look right.)
And VOILA, leopard print eyelids are yours for the night!
I wanted the colors to be a bit more intense, so I used the same applicator and pressed it down again.
Then, I moved on to the other eye.
LEOPARD PRINT EYE SHADOW!
I was so happy that the eye shadow stayed on all night (just don’t rub your eyelids!). And the entire process could NOT have been easier, seriously.
I can’t wait to try these other (more day-appropriate) color combos:
Right now, I believe EyeMajic Eye Shadow applicators are only available to order through their website–Check out the kit that comes with 16 different shades!
These are perfect for when you’re short on time and are rushing to finish your makeup…or if you’re one of those people who need a little help in the eyeshadow department. They get two thumbs up from me!
In my previous post, I introduced you to eShakti, one of the most curve-friendly, size-inclusive lines on the market today. Each dress, skirt and top on their site is customizable and comes in sizes 0-36W…A girl could go crazy with all the choices!!!
I was thrilled when they offered me the opportunity to review a dress from their site, and I spent a long time deciding which one I wanted to try.
I settled on this adorable emerald green and beige striped dress…because I knew it would be the perfect dress to take on my vacation to Mexico….and ALSO because I wanted to test the fit of the dress in the curvy-girl trouble zones: bust, arms and waist.
I’m happy to report that I LOVED the dress and it fit perfectly!
The elastic in the sleeves did not cut into my arms (a common problem for me) and the bodice was roomy enough for a larger chest. It even had a “modesty snap” in case you didn’t want to show off ALL of your girls (hey…I was on vacation, so I left it unsnapped!). The waist also fit perfectly because it had an elastic inset in the back that helps accommodate different body shapes.
The full circle skirt hits just at the knee–which makes it perfect for twirling in marble hallways. 🙂
I paired the dress with a simple gold belt from ASOS Curve, a bunch of gold accessories, and some nude pumps…and then went to Casino night at our resort!
It was a super fun night–even though I lost all of my (fake) money…and I felt fabulous in this eShakti dress. I’m sad that this exact style is no longer available for sale, but my experience with the brand is so positive, that I feel comfortable recommending it to all of my readers.
