Chicago Fashion Fetish Fete: What I Wore

So…I hope you’ve enjoyed all of the runway shows I’ve been posting from the Fashion Fetish Fete. But if not, you’ll be happy to know that this is the last one! I’m wrapping up the series with a few shots of me and what I wore.

I found this cobalt blue and black ruched dress at TJ Maxx, and I thought it’d be perfect for the night. I didn’t count on the reflectiveness of the fabric…which actually makes the dress look worse in pictures than it did on me. lol. It was actually quite flattering…but in some of these pics, the light reflects off of my midsection (the site of the dreaded roll). 🙁 Oh well, as long as I know it looked better in person, then I’m OK. lol

What is my leg doing in this picture??? I have no idea how it got like that!!!! hahahaahahah.

I loved meeting Christina Raddi from the Catholic Charities (the beneficiary of the event). She was fabulous!

I managed to get a pic with the hostess for the evening, Aleah Connect (from WCIU’s Fashion Express). She was very friendly…and looked gorgeous in that bright pink!
In the taxi…headed to another party. 🙂

This is a much better representation of what the dress looked like…See? Not so unflattering!

My friend Wendy made me pose for this picture. lol. I’m supposed to look cool and casual. lol. Did I pull it off?

Chicago Fashion Fetish Fete: Shavonne Dorsey

Another one of my favorite shows from Fashion Fetish Fete: Shavonne Dorsey. What I like especially about this line, is that it has something for woman of all shapes and sizes. Dresses that flatter thin shapes, and curvier shapes were sent down the runway one after another. I like that her line isn’t only for one body type…it is truly what fashion should be (in my humble opinion)…inclusive and celebratory…showing off the clothes and the woman in them to their best advantage. I can’t wait to see what else Shavonne Dorsey comes out with in the future! I’ll definitely be keeping an eye on her career!

I was so happy (and surprised!) to see my friend Nikeya Young walk the aisle in this stunning, colorful floral dress. It flattered her full-figure gorgeously!!!

I was still focusing on Nikeya in this pic…but this dress was gorgeous…so elegant! I’m sad I didn’t get a better picture!

Simple and elegant seem to be defining characteristics of this line.

Another beautiful dress for curvier physiques! Love the lattice work pattern and the fresh blue color.

These shoes were ridiculously fierce. 3 Spikes coming out of both sides!!!

This is one of those dresses that will work for many different body types…and occasions.

What do you think of this line so far?

Queen of the Copy Room in a Purple Igigi Dress

I can’t begin to tell you how comfortable and fabulous this Igigi Iliana Knot Dress made me feel when I wore it to the office the other day. Purple is the color of royalty, of course…so I was feeling like a queen…well, queen of the copy room anyway. 🙂

This dress is one of my the purchases I made at the Cupcakes, Curves, and Cleavage event at vive la femme. It is pretty low cut, so if you aren’t comfortable with your girls, you might want to wear a cami or slip underneath. Also, be very very careful with what you let rub against the fabric. I always carry my purse on the left, and when I took off my dress, I noticed some pilling on that side! So if you get this dress, be careful ladies!

Also, don’t just go with the traditional black shoes and accessories. Go for something unexpected…like a chunky yellow necklace, or some bright green earrings and cuff…or pair it with red shoes like I did! This dress is not meant to be ignored. It deserves to stand out, and so do you!

Outfit Rundown:
Dress: Igigi by way of vive la femme
Red heels: Me Too by way of Nordstrom Rack
Necklace: Francesca’s
Silver Circle Bracelet: Ravensgoods
Earrings: Ravenswood Antique Mart

Hope you’re all having a gorgeous day, my beauties!
xoxo

Outfit of the Day: Ladylike in Lace

I don’t know what it is, but I’m feeling very ladylike lately. Is it the influence of Mad Men fashions that have made me obsessed over longer skirt lengths and tops that conceal and reveal at the same time? Well, anyway, today I pulled out this brown lace skirt that I bought from Old Navy like 4 years ago (have I mentioned that I keep everything even if I don’t wear it for a while??). Instead of pairing it with cream (like I did when I first bought the skirt), I decided to add some pops of color to liven things up.

This purple shirt is just a tad sheer, but is still appropriate enough to wear to the office (at least I thought it was). I went with a wildcard pairing of magenta suede heels…but it still felt somewhat boring until I added this yellow fabric flower to the belt. It definitely added some zing to the outfit…and drew attention away from my un-makeup-ed (I just invented that word) face and blah hairdo. 🙂

What do you think?

For some reason, I felt the need to curtsy. I don’t think we curtsy enough in modern society. lol

I carried my trusty yellow Coach purse and it set off the yellow flower perfectly!

The top is sheer…but tastefully so.

I was running extremely late this morning, so I went sans makeup and wore very little jewelry. Sometimes you just let the outfit speak for itself, ya know?

Outfit Rundown:
Brown lace skirt: Old Navy (practically vintage)
Purple sheer shirt: Forever 21+
Magenta suede heels: Apostrophe by way of Sears (ages ago)
Yellow rose accessory: H&M
Purse: Coach

I hope you are all having a lovely, ladylike day, my beauties!

Outfit of the Day: My First Midi

Have you tried out the new “midi” length skirt? It’s not a maxi, not a mini…it’s a midi. One of my friends pointed out that it’s actually just plain tea-length, lol. But fashion is all about repackaging the past, right? 🙂

Anyway, I bought my first midi skirt about a month ago at H&M, but it took me a while to find the right top to pair with it. With such a full bottom, tops that were loose or had any extra fabric just overwhelmed the whole look. It’s a very ladylike, almost dressy skirt, so just a plain T-shirt looked too plain. Finally, I pulled this top out of the bottom of my closet and tried it on a whim. I think it worked well! With this neckline and the midi length, full skirt, I’m rocking a very 40s/50s look. Also, the print of the top helps balance the outfit. You can’t see my hair, but I went with a side chignon…another classic, ladylike look. What do you think?

I don’t know what kind of neckline this technically is, but it is the most flattering I’ve found for  my shape.

Don’t be afraid to tuck in your shirts with this type of skirt. I was apprehensive at first, but it creates a much slimmer line.

Silly…but it had to be done. My friend Wendy (who took all of these pics) made me do it! Thanks, doll!!!

This skirt was made for twirling!

So, I guess I’m a fan of the midi skirt. I will definitely try to find more things to pair it with when fall comes in earnest. This particular one is quite sheer…even with its many layers…so first thing on my list is to buy another slip!

Skirt: H&M (Yes, really. A straight sized store actually had something I can fit into!)
Shirt: Ashley Stewart
Belt: Dots
Shoes: Dressbarn
Jewelry: Forever 21

Have you tried the midi skirt yet?? What did you wear with it?
